Most people can only dream of spending most of their days in bed. At this time of the year, when the holiday season is beckoning and winter weather is making it harder and harder to get up from the bed (at least in some parts of the world), the lure of clean sheets and comfortable mattress is irresistible. Then there are those who actually train and make a living doing EVERYTHING in bed.
Cosmonaut Boris Morukov was an overachiever who has trained for many disciplines all his life. After earning a medical degree in several studies, mind you, so that he can embark on his life-long dream of making space his workplace, Morukov also became part of a year long study where NASA says is an experiment spanning over 370-days so that the will be able to come up with countermeasures for very long flights in space.
This study was first done in the 60’s and had subjects literally on bed-rest. Morukov was part of a study done in 1986, along with 11 doctors and experts. What’s interesting is even today, this study is still taking place in NASA and other similar facilities, to help improve the conditions of space travellers.
Interesting isn’t it? This is probably one reason why some mattress manufacturers take interest in developing products based on NASA’s studies.
