Earthquake Resistant Bed from Japan

A company in Japan is planning to create a canopy bed that also works as an earthquake shelter in that, it can withstand severe shaking and protect the user from a collapsing wall. The bed is made of cypress wood, which has a reputaiton for being durable, sturdy and hard. It can withstand a load of 65-ton and the company behind this said that was a “cheaper” route to a full renovation of the home, using less susceptible structures.

The bed is estimated to cost $5,600 and already, elderly couples are asking about its release. Here’s what it looks like:
