Designers have been coming out with more contemporary stuff when it comes to loft beds. Industry insiders say this is fast becoming a favorite among college students or those who live in dorms or similar arrangements.
The loft bed is different from a bunk bed. It is essentially a more elaborate bunk bed, higher than normal and comes in frames that can accomodate more furniture underneath it.
Such as this example:
Loft beds are cooler by design. And since most dorm rooms are small, a bed like this is such a space saver.
Bed manufacturers have actually come up with loft bed lines that make DIY construction easier. This includes ready-to-assemble parts, which has storage shelves and perhaps even a desk.
As for the price, a basic loft bed, with twin size mattress can go from $250-$300, while a one with a queen mattress can be as much as $340 .
More elaborate beds with thicker and full featured mattress can go as high as $700 or more.
Some colleges, however, disallow construction of DIY loft beds at their dormitories, but will have to contact their own workers to construct these high rise beds which can be dismantled at the end of the school year.
