Mattress Fiber Composition

coconut mattress fiber is most likely dangerous because this is an element that lights up with fire and spreads easily.
But in countries like Sri Lanka, it’s the main component for rubberized mattresses, pads, upholstery, insulating material, packing materials mattress.
Although, to their credit, the fiber has to pass moisture content standards.
Coir fiber posses an inherent moisture content which correlates to its natural properties, particularly the flexibility of fibre strands. The Sri Lanka standards (SLS) indicated a moisture content maximum of 18% unless otherwise agreed upon between buyer and seller. Other than moisture content the fibre should be free from husk particles and foreign matter.

Exercise Crib Mattress Safety
0 Comments Published by Lilian August 9th, 2008 in MATTRESS Kids, MATTRESS Safety. To ensure utmost crib safety for your babies, practice the following guidelines:
No plastic coverings. Remove this immediately upon delivery of the crib mattress.- Ensure that the crib mattress fits snugly and perfectly. It should be in the standard size - 27 1/4inches by 57 5/8inches - with a depth of at least 6 inches.
- Opt for a firm crib mattress rather than a really soft mattress as the latter is a hazard. Soft mattresses have the tendency to suffocate the infant or provide improper corner support, your baby may be trapped.
- There’s no need for a topper with a crib mattress. Again this is a safety hazard which can potentially suffocate babies.
- Use organic mattress if possible.
- In the same manner, use organic beddings.
- Babies shouldn’t be allowed to sleep on air mattress or waterbeds yet.
- Be aware of crib recalls or product recalls. These are usually published in the news.

An old mattress saved this man’s life.
0 Comments Published by Lilian July 16th, 2008 in Interesting Mattress, MATTRESS News. Here’s an unusual incident involving the discard of an old mattress, which turned out to be a real life saver, more than anything.
A mattress that was being discarded Monday proved useful when it broke a tree trimmer’s 20-foot fall, according to the Palm Desert Police Department.
A worker was trimming palm trees in the 40-000 block of Sandpiper Court about 10:50 a.m. when his cutting tool connected with nearby power lines.
This caused an electricity jolt that sent sparks flying over his head, causing him to loose his balance and fall off the ladder, according to police.
Just as this was happening, a next-door neighbor was throwing out an old mattress.
The trimmer landed on the mattress and escaped with a scraped arm, according to police.
The man was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Serta First Mattress Company to adapt Open-Flame Mattress Resistance System
0 Comments Published by Lilian June 15th, 2008 in MATTRESS News, MATTRESS Shopping.According to this, Serta was the first to adapt fire-retardant technology in their mattresses, even as the bill was still not mandatory for all mattress manufacturers. With Serta’s FireBlocker® system, the company was already heavily pushing for mattress safety, two years before the law was set in place.
Serta introduced their FireBlocker® system in January 2005. Serta was the first to do so, 2 years before it became mandatory. FireBlocker is a fire barrier system located among the outer layers of the mattress and made from a precise blend of natural and synthetic materials. FireBlocker contains no harmful chemicals. The FireBlocker fire barrier system does not change the premium quality of Serta mattresses that consumers are familiar with either.
“We are pleased that the Consumer Product Safety Commission continues to support high industry standards by enforcing the new open-flame regulations,” said Kelly Rampson, Serta’s Director of Marketing, three years ago. “Serta has long recognized the importance of open-flame bedroom safety which is why we initiated our FireBlocker system over two years ago.”
It’s something to think about, when shopping for your next mattress.
