Japanese mattress inventor, Motokuni Takaoka, has developed one of the best mattresses in the world that many athletes benefit from. He has, in fact, been to all of major sports events, including the Olympics, in order to find out how his design and inventions have helped sportsmen to become better at their game.
Takaoka is credited for the Airweave, a type of pad that is made with resin fibers that encourage a better sleeping environment for its users. Athletes who have tried sleeping with the Airweave apparently end up less fatigued and more physically ready to face the day’s game.
Takaoka’s beginnings as a sleep specialists, as well as the development of his mattress innovation has been profiled in the Asahi.
Takaoka’s mattress story starts a decade ago and upon discovering how resins his company used for fishing and net production were also used for mattress stuffing. Using different types of mattress models and undergoing a research that spanned for many years, as well as many prototypes, the inventor was able to create a mattress pad that Olympic winners used in the last Beijing Olympics.
Today, his invention is used by airline companies, five star hotels and resorts all over Japan. His Airweave was also part of the London Olympics support program.
