That new mattress you bought may have been "used"

by Lilian on Sunday, April 20th, 2008

A lawmaker in Boston is hoping to change a Massachusetts state law that allows mattress retailers to sell returned mattress. Rep. Louis Kafka (in photo) was watching a television commercial when he learned that this has been a common practice in mattress retail.

“You think you’re going to buy something that you’re going to sleep on maybe for the next ten years. To think other people, doing whatever they did, slept on it for thirty days,”

Rep Kafka’s new bill requires retailers to “notify buyers by marking the mattresses if it’s a resale,” . The bill has been quickly signed into a law and should take effect this coming summer.
