Repair your Air Mattress

by Lilian on Friday, October 5th, 2007

If you find a leak in your air mattress, it may still be fixed. Here’s how:

  • Purchase an acrylic spray paint at the hardware store. If you have a bigger mattress, buy more than one. Choose a chemically safe product, especially one that will not bother your nose when you sleep on the air mattress.
  • Bring your mattress outdoors or in a well-ventilated area before you attempt to spray on the air mattress.
  • Spray on it, giving particular care to the seams, corners and bottom. Let it stay there for two hours.
  • Do another round of coat and let it dry longer this time. It’s best to allow the paint to dry over night.
  • The air mattress should be back in full form the following day.

You’ve got to be kidding. Spray paint to fix a leak? I hope no one took you up on that advice.

Better bet is to get some Tear Aid (available from Cabelas). Type A is for anything but vinyl. I used it to fix my cotton canvas covered latex air mattress bladder, and so far its as good as new.

Type B is specifically for vinyl. Haven’t tried that, but if the need ever arises that’s what I’ll go for.
