images Building a nursery for the coming new baby? Here are some tips to consider for when you purchase your new baby mattress —

  • While recycling is the fad these days, it’s not a good idea when it comes to mattresses for cribs. Never use an old mattress for the new nursery. You don’t know where that mattress has been or what it has been soiled with. Older mattresses may also be too outdated, it doesn’t pass the standards for mattress safety today. In the same manner, stay away from used car seats as well.
  • Avoid mattresses that have polyurethane foams, polyvinyl chloride covers and  flame retardants (PDBEs and similar chemicals).
  • Get a mattress that is made of wool or organic cotton. A latex mattress is also a good choice.
  • Make sure to have a mattress protector, those equipped with stuff that tucks moisture away.
  • Clean baby bedding with biodegradable detergents.
