Since 1981, White Lotus has been hand crafting mattress without springs believing that “the use of steel in mattresses is responsible for enormous amounts of air and water pollution every year, not to mention the devastation that strip mining has on the land where coal and iron ore are extracted.” The company has mastered the art of conserving earth’s energy with most of their energy and resources coming from wind power.

The mattresses are made of cotton scrap fibers, without the benefit (or disadvantage) of chemical processing, including bleaching or dying. Their Stowaway mattress is a favorite. It’s like an exercise mat or is best used while traveling as it is transportable and may be easily rolled out for storage.
