Finding a leak in the air mattress

by Lilian on Friday, October 5th, 2007

Sometimes, the inevitable happens and your air mattress will spring a leak. And this will spell disaster. The tiniest bit of leak can leave you with a flat mattress and back pains. Looking for the leak may prove difficult. But below are tips to help you do it:

  • It is easier to detect where the hole is if a mattress is inflated. So, fill the air mattress with as much air, but be careful not to over-inflate and burst it.
  • Feel the mattress surface with your hands or your face. If you feel a gentle breeze, that would have to indicate the hole on the mattress. Or you can actually hear this.
  • Check the seams and corners. These are the most vulnerable areas.
  • Have a spray bottle filled with water and dish soap by your side. When you have done filling the mattress with ear, spray this on it. If your mattress is leaking or has a hole on it, soap bubbles will form in that area. If you don’t have a spritzer, a soaked rag will do.
  • Bring the air mattress outdoor and hose it down, filling the surface with water. Follow the bubbles. That will usually tell you were the leak is.
