What happens to your warranty?
Some people buy mattresses precisely because of the store warranty, which may sometimes go for 10 to 15 years. But have you ever wondered what happens to your warranties when mattress stores close for business?
According to this report
Warranties are typically only as good as the company that backs them. If a company goes kaput, the warranty usually goes with it.
So, what do you do then? You can take some of these advices to heart:
Make sure you know who backs the warranty. Often, a retailer may go out of business but your specific brand-name appliance or other product may still be covered by a valid manufacturer’s warranty.
Read the warranty and make sure you know what it covers and what would void the coverage. Federal law requires that warranties be available for you to read before you buy, even if you’re shopping by catalog or on the Internet.
Consumer Reports advises against buying an extended warranty.
