Therapy mattress to help cure pressure ulcers

This seems like a hopeful venture for people suffering from pressure ulcers, otherwise known as bed sores:

A new wound-therapy mattress that senses patient movement and adjusts to redistribute pressure will make its debut Thursday, Hillenbrand Industries said.

The E700 Wound Surface, manufactured and marketed by Hillenbrand’s Hill-Rom Co., is designed for patients with pressure ulcers, also known as bed sores, according to a news release. It features a sensor that monitors the patient in real time, and adjusts as the patient sleeps, turns, sits up or gets in and out of bed. It also has fabrics that provide airflow beneath the patient and minimize friction, bed exit alarms and features that help caregivers position the patient in bed.

The product is being introduced at the Clinical Symposium on Advances in Skin and Wound Care Conference in Nashville, Hillenbrand said.

Hillenbrand Industries (NYSE: HB), headquartered in Batesville, includes two wholly owned companies: Hill-Rom Co., a manufacturer of equipment for the health care industry, and Batesville Casket Co., a manufacturer and supplier of burial caskets.
