Research Confirms Benefit of New Mattress to Health
A university study done at the Oklahoma State University on the benefits of a new mattress to better sleep was published in the Journal of Applied Ergonomics last March. (March 2008 Journal of Applied Ergonomics, Volume 39, Issue 2, Pages 247-254; Article 15)
Per reports from International Sleep Products Association (ISPA), the study was conducted among 59 participants and had the following results: reduced back pain (62.8 percent), reduced shoulder pain (62.4 percent), reduced back stiffness (58.4 percent), improved sleep quality (64.4 percent) and sleep comfort (69.96 percent). The study also reported that body pains were more recurring in those that originally slept on the cheapest mattress.
“Our work showed that new mattresses have a considerable impact on reduced back pain and improved sleep quality, among other benefits,” said Bert Jacobson of the Oklahoma State University. “Based on our research, there’s no question that a new mattress can sustain these benefits for just about anyone, regardless of age, weight or gender.”
