November Mattress Sales Down
With the economy slumping, the mattress industry of the United States is also experiencing the same. This is according to data from the International Sleep Products Association.
Dollar sales of mattresses fell 30.5 percent compared with November 2007, while unit sales dropped 28.7 percent. The average unit selling price for the mattresses sold in November was $332.45, 2.6 percent less than in the prior year. ISPA’s data was taken from a survey of 18 U.S. mattress producers, representing 58.1 percent of the industry’s wholesale dollar sales and 45.9 percent of its unit sales.
For the January-November period, dollar sales dropped 12.7 percent, while unit sales decreased by 11.1 percent. The average unit-selling price for that period was $327.73, down 1.9 percent from January to November 2007.
