Don’t smoke in bed, please!
Here’s a case of a guy from Wirral near Liverpool, England, who was literally killed by cigarettes. From the accounts of this news, he was smoking in bed when he accidentally dropped the cigarette on his mattress, causing it to blaze up and killing him in the process. He could not get up from it because he was disabled and therefore confined to the bed. But I guess, as with most smokers, who finds it hard to kick the habit, he could not help himself when he lit that cigarette while lying on the mattress. And of course, that would be the last time he would pop one.
A BED-RIDDEN heavy smoker was killed after flames engulfed his bed, an inquest at Wallasey Town Hall heard. Johhn Weir Gray’s home in Grange Road West, Birkenhead, was already on the fire service’s high-risk register when he was dragged out of the inferno in February.
Mr Gray, who was described as a “chronic alcoholic,” had accidentally dropped a cigarette down the side of his bed, a fire investigation team discovered.
Realizing that mattresses can indeed be flammable, standards have been set years ago to prevent accidents and for manufacturers to adhere to safer process. But, undoubtedly, there is still a small percentage of fire-hazards. Consumers need to be aware of this. Sleep Products Safety has some very interesting facts about keeping yourself and your family safe from accidents in the bedroom.
