Ideally, changing bed sheets that cover the mattress must be done once a month. A dirty bed sheet, according to a study by a paediatric allergist in London, can be the cause for why health problems occur. People who sleep on sheets that haven’t been changed can develop eczema, a skin problem, and several lung or respiratory problems like rhinitis and asthma.
Says Adam Fox, the specialist, “Having good bedroom hygiene when it comes to changing your sheets is about more far than just freshening up your linen.”
In his study, it was discovered that several people sleep with dirty sheets and aren’t even bothered to change this as often as ideal. Because our bodies shed skin cells daily, or secret fluids like sweat and oil, these are then deposited on the sheets and the rest of the bedding.
“While unsavoury in themselves, these deposits mostly pose a problem as they are all deliciously appealing for dust mites,” Mr. Fox added further.
Stripping the bed or mattress of old beddings and replacing it with clean ones help with better sleep, as there are less disturbances when you’re already in bed. It’s also healthier, as you are able to take a good night’s rest when the bedding is clean.
How often do you think sheets must be changed and washed? Are you in the habit of doing this once a month?
