Waterbed for Babies? How safe is it?
0 Comments Published by Lilian August 15th, 2008 in MATTRESS Kids, Waterbed Mattress.Avka Baby has a waterbed mattress for babies. Now, I never would have thought it’s safe to have babies sleep on a waterbed. Maybe not unless it’s a waterbed that’s the right size for the cot? What do you think?
I’d be worried about SID, but here’s what Avka Baby has to say about this:
Q: How does a baby crib waterbed prevent SIDS and Back Problems?
A: In the seventies, we were advised to lay babies on their belly to increase their mobility. In this same period, there was a massive increase in the number of sudden cot deaths worldwide. These were assumed to result from the fact that laying a baby face-down effectively covers up the face. Fear of sudden cot death is now leading people to place babies in an alternative, but equally unsuitable, position: lying on their backs. This can create a range of orthopedic problems such as scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and the so-called torticollis (wry-neck). In addition, a series of other ailments have been observed ranging from motion disorders to skull deformities. In conclusion, placing a baby on its back leads to malformed growth and a damaged spine and placing a baby in the belly position increases the risk of SIDS. However lying on your back on a water bed is nowadays recommended by any well-informed orthopedist and most people who suffer from back pain. This is because it provides an even level of support for the entire body - it manages to be as hard as stone and yet simultaneously as soft as a cloud.

Waterbed Mattress Safety
1 Comment Published by Lilian May 21st, 2008 in MATTRESS Safety, Waterbed Mattress.
Do you know that it isn’t advisable to have someone else sleep on the floor next to a waterbed mattress? Accordingly, this practice is unsafe as possible dangers pose in this type of set-up. What if the mattress suddenly collapses? Similarly, no one should ever attempt to go under a waterbed mattress. Imagine the kind of possible injury one might incur in a situation like this.
Waterbed mattresses are not usually kid friendly. Not especially when they carry around toys with them; or have some kid jump on top of it; or have an infant sleep there. If you have a waterbed mattress in the house, it is best to avoid letting children near the waterbed mattress.
Waterbed mattresses require regular checking and maintenance. When as the last time you did this for yours?

Waterbed with built in sound system
0 Comments Published by Lilian March 27th, 2008 in Waterbed Mattress. And I thought waterbeds are out of mod! This one is pretty much updated, with its built in sound system. Apparently, water is a good sound carrier. The Akva Sound® has a special plate where a loudspeaker may be mounted, INSIDE the bed.

How wonderful is this?

I’m not really a big fan of waterbed mattress, they remind me of the 70’s too much. But I guess their popularity stands through time. There are still a lot of users of waterbed mattress. They are still sold in stores even today…some with even improved designs.
This one in particular is a lot like a regular platform bed. Only, it is in fact a waterbed.

A Split waterbed can be decorated on the bottom part of the splitted foam rails. You can choose between different materials like artificual leather, microfiber, or other textiles. You can change the decorations every time, because they are fixed by a valcron fastener.
