If you’ve got an unused monitor laying around, there’s one more important use for it as a cat bed frame.

The idea behind this innovation comes from this online store at Etsy and it is being sold for $110.00, including a custom fitted pillow that serves as its mattress.
Says its maker, Alpine, “I make these out of recycled monitors. The insides are gutted, and taken to a facility to reclaim and recycle the picture tube, and parts, insuring they do not end up in a landfill.”
Not a bad idea for helping in saving the planet, eh?

Magnetic Mattress Sham in Canada
0 Comments Published by Lilian January 28th, 2008 in MATTRESS News. The Record reports that a mattress salesperson with a very questionable history, is prowling senior citizens club in Canada, pitching a magnetic mattress that promises to relieve different health conditions. The salesperson and is selling these between $1,800 to $2,800 when it can be bought from suppliers at $40-$80.
Thorsten Wietschel sprang for a free schnitzel lunch this week for about 30 people, mostly senior citizens, at the Schwaben Club. Then he launched into a two-hour “private lecture” on the wonders of mattress covers fitted with magnets –priced from $1,800 to $2,800 — to help with everything from incontinence to strokes. “It’s not snake oil and we are not fly-by-night,” Wietschel said in an interview before his presentation.
His talk went over well with the people in attendance, who were told they would be contacted by sales representatives after filling out forms with their names, addresses, telephone numbers and dates of birth.

Ever wonder what the phrase “go to the mattresses” mean? It’s supposedly alluded to The Godfather films, but what does it really mean?
In 1530 the combined troops of Charles V and Medici Pope Clement VII lay siege to Florence. The bell tower of San Miniato al Monte was part of the defences. Michelangelo Buonarroti, as he was good at most things, was put in charge of defending the city. He used the ploy of hanging mattresses on the outside of the tower to minimize damage from cannon fire.
In times of war or siege, Italian families would vacate their homes and rent apartments in safer areas. In order to protect themselves they would hire soldiers to sleep on the floor in shifts. The meaning of the phrase turns on the association in Italian folk-memory of mattresses with safety in wartime. The phrase wasn’t well known outside of the USA and Italy prior to the Godfather movies.
