Pushing for Eco-Friendly Mattresses
0 Comments Published by Lilian August 26th, 2007 in MATTRESS News, MATTRESS Organic, MATTRESS Safety, MATTRESS Shopping.Research work conducted by Sustainable Technologies Initiative (STI), a company based in the UK, shows some very effective alternative ways by which mattress manufacturers can provide for more environment-friendly sleeping solutions.
Mattresses are conventionally made using various synthetic materials that often carry adverse effects to the environment, especially when these are not properly disposed. By pushing the use of natural fibers from recycled wool, cotton and other organic materials, in place of foam padding or synthetic fibers which used to be the common practice, Sustainable Technologies Initiative believes that the move does not only help the environment, it also improves the competitiveness of the industry through lowered manufacturing costs. Further to that, consumers are provided better sleeping alternatives as studies have also indicated that natural products bring bigger and better benefits.
Read more of what the study and projecte have resulted to in this article, as STI pushes for a more Eco-Friendly Mattress.
Incidentally, watch for the Keetsa Green Tea Memory Foam mattress which will be sold in our partner site very soon.

The Flying Mattress to hover in 2008
0 Comments Published by Lilian August 26th, 2007 in Interesting Mattress, MATTRESS FUN, MATTRESS News.
The flying mattress sounds like something straight out of somebody’s idea of a fantasy movie but for this Frenchwoman, it is all possible and all too real.
Peggy Bouchet, 34 years old, plans to make history by becoming the first woman to fly across the Atlantic from Africa to the West Indies, in a solar-powered balloon. The hovercraft which she dubs as Windream One, is about 90ft and resembles a giant air mattress. Bouchet is doing this to raise awareness on the importance of renewable energy. The flight is expected to take about 12 days.
The complete story is on Times Online UK and if you would like to learn more on Peggy Bouchet, her official website is here.

Tempur-Pedic Mattress Lawsuit Gets Judgement
3 Comments Published by Lilian August 26th, 2007 in MATTRESS News, MATTRESS Safety, MATTRESS Shopping.
Some people just really mess up someone else’s effort of doing good deeds.
A mattress suit filed by Tempur-Pedic International against Waste to Charity Inc. and several individuals has been given default judgement as the defendants failed to make their defense in court.
The mattress company entered into an agreement with Waste to Charity Inc. in February to distribute its mattresses, as well as other accessories like slippers, comforters and pillows, to Katrina victims through various charitable organizations. The mattresses never made it to the intended recipients for allegedly, the defendants distributed these for profit, which was in clear violation of their arrangement with Tempur-Pedic.
More on that news story in this article from SW Times.

Best Waterproof Mattress Pad
0 Comments Published by Lilian August 25th, 2007 in Interesting Mattress, MATTRESS Accessories, MATTRESS Safety, MATTRESS Shopping.
Real Simple votes this waterproof mattress pad from Garnet Hill as the best one. For $75 the mattress pad is a practical solution to worrying about bed stains or soiling. They swear by its comfortability, too.
Why We Like It
It’s practical. You can have breakfast in bed or sleep with your pets or kids without worrying about an accident. It’s also luxurious. You won’t hear a lot of crinkly noises when you turn over, because a cotton-percale layer quiets the polyurethane backing. Everyone in the family will be able to use this machine-washable pad, which is available in sizes from crib to college-dorm twin extra-long to king (it fits a 16-inch-thick mattress). The skirt is snug-fitting and stays put, which makes it safer for babies and less irritating for adults.
